Washington School for the Deaf’s Career and Transition Services team provides group and individualized support to students to ensure that they leave with the skills necessary to be successful in a work and/or in a post secondary program environment as well as responsible and productive members of society. This team is comprised of staff in both the residential and academic department. Contact the high school office for more information.

The Career/Transition Services works to:

  • Implement a collaborative learning environment for students
  • Discuss modification/accommodations needed
  • Assist with Career Planning
  • Provide Advocacy Support
  • Communicate with all parties involved in the student’s future planning
  • Build the Transition page on the IEP
  • Monitor student’s credits earned in high school to meet graduation requirement
  • Work in partnership with local high schools for students to take courses off campus
  • Seek additional resources to meet the student’s need for success
  • Host the annual Career Fair
  • Be the link in connecting with outside agencies
  • Is a recognized center for providing college admission tests (ACT, SAT)
  • Prepare the students for the world of work
  • Place students at work site for optimal learning experiences
  • Provide an embedded academic schedule where courses are intertwined with reading, writing
  • Transition checklist to track student’s skills in independency, self-advocacy and world awareness
