Admissions
WSD students come from all areas of the state to attend school.
Students that live outside the Vancouver, Washington area are
eligible to attend the school's Residential Program. WSD accepts
applications throughout the year and admission to the schools
is based on the approval from the administration.

2. Fill out the packet completely and mail it to: Office of Admissions, Attention: Judy Smith, Washington School for the Deaf, 611 Grand Blvd., Vancouver, WA 98661.
3. School administration will review the student's application and notify you of the admissions status in writing within two weeks of receipt.

How much does it cost to attend school at WSD?
WSD is a state-funded agency and offers deaf and
hard of hearing students an appropriate educational program
at no cost to families or local school districts.
Where does funding for WSD programs and services
come from?
Approximately 99% of school funding
is provided by the State of Washington. An additional 1% is
provided by the federally funded program Individuals with Disabilities
Education Improvement Act (IDEIA).
Can my child attend school during the day at WSD,
but live at home?
Yes. Many students that live
in the Vancouver area attend WSD during the day and return home
after school is done for the day.
How close can a student live to the Vancouver Campus
and be eligible to live on campus?
Students in the
Residential Program must have a permanent address of more than
60 minutes by school bus transportation away from the WSD campus.
How often may parents visit students and when do
the students return home?
Parents/guardians are
encouraged to visit their children and be involved in their
education while attending school at WSD. Students typically
arrive on campus from home on Sunday evenings and return home
on Friday afternoons.
What if my child is denied
admissions?

Is transportation provided for the student to return
home on the weekends and during breaks?
Yes. Our
Transportation Department will arrange for students to be transported
from home to the WSD campus either via bus or airplane.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Parents/guardians are required to drop-off students at WSD in-person on the first day of school and to pick-up on the last day of school.
